LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD
By Fred Aylin A sparkling new version of the popular fairytale
PLOT RESUME Ivy Trellis, her son Ivor and her daughter Rose are about to be evicted from their village store because she is unable to pay the high rent imposed on her by Lord Jeers the local landowner. However, they hear the news from Ivan Axe, a traveller seeking work, that their Grandmother has won a large fortune on the National Lottery. Rose, known in the village as Little Red Riding Hood, Ivor and their friend Olivia, the Lord’s daughter, set off to seek the help of their Grandmother who lives on the other side of Dark Wood. To save time, they decide to venture through the dangerous wood itself, where they come face to face with Wilbur the Big Bad Wolf and are attacked by the evil Trolls, led by Fleshcreep. However good triumphs over evil and a happy ending ensues.

Script Sample - A DilemmaIvy Trellis, her son Ivor and daughter Rose, have just been told by the Squire's henchmen, Woody and Willy, that they have to pay the rent or be evicted
Woody Now, Mrs Trellis, you have a decision to make.
Ivy I do?
Ivor She does?
Willy Yes, she either moves out of that there store she rents so that her Ladyship can have it, or she has to buy it.
Rose Buy it?
Ivor Buy it?
Woody You heard him, buy it.
Ivy But for how much?
Willy (parting his hands) This much.
Ivy That much! (copying Willy)
Woody Yes that much!
Ivy (bringing her hands closer together) But I’ve only got so much!
Willy So much!
Woody I’m afraid that’s not enough. Tough!
Willy You have until, until, until the end of this performance to pay up…..
Woody Or move out.
Ivor But where do we go?
Woody Actually, it’s through the wings over there, then down the steps and along the corridor.
Willy We shall be back for the loot later.
Ivor But we don’t play a musical instrument!
Woody You pays up or you moves on.
Willy Yes. Good day.
Exit Woody and Willy
Ivy Uh. I don’t know what’s good about it.
Rose Mother, they can’t do this to us. It isn’t fair!
Ivy I’m afraid they can, Rose. There’s only one thing for it. We shall just have to sell what we have left in the store and then move on. Besides, we haven’t enough time to find that much money.
Exit Ivy via the store door
Rose Oh Ivor, I’m sure Grandma would help us.
Ivor But she lives too far away. It would take too long to reach her cottage because we would have to walk right round the outside of Dark Wood.
Rose You’re right.
Olivia Oh Rose, I’m sorry about mummy and daddy doing this to you. They are being beastly.
Rose It’s not your fault. It’s just that I like it here, helping mother in the store, playing in the woods with you…..
Olivia Mummy says I’m not to play in the Dark Wood anymore.
Rose Mine too.
Enter Eyesore
Olivia Anyway, I’m not afraid of a silly old wolf. (Pause) I say Rose, I like your brother.
Rose Who, Ivor?
Olivia Yes, Who Ivor.
Rose (smiling to herself) Ivor.
Ivor Yes?
Rose This is my friend I was telling you about.
Ivor Oh hello. Who are you?
Olivia Olivia.
Ivor I know you live here, but what’s your name?
Rose No, her name’s Olivia Jeers.
Ivor Cheers? What are we celebrating?
Rose Nothing. I’ll just go and see if mother wants a hand.
Ivor Why has she lost one?
Exit Rose
Olivia Ivor.
Ivor Yes?
Olivia I like your thingy.
Ivor Pardon?
Olivia I said I like your thingy. (Points at Eyesore)
Ivor Oh I see. This is Eyesore.
Olivia Tell me does he carry fleas?
Ivor Oh no, not any more because nobody wants to buy them these days. Now then, Eyesore, off you go.
Exit Eyesore
Olivia Ivor, have you lived here all your life?
Ivor No, not yet.
Olivia And now you have to leave.
Ivor Looks like it.
Olivia That’s a pity, because I think I’m in love.
Ivor Wow, who with?
Olivia With……….you, Ivor.
Ivor Oooh, heck. In that case you can see my little toy. You would like to see my toy?
Olivia Yes please.
Ivor Okay then. Just a minute. (Fetches a box from the store) I keep it in this box.
Olivia What is it?
Ivor It’s an Action Man. (Opens the box)
Olivia But there’s nothing there.
Ivor I know. That’s because it’s an Action Man deserter!
Olivia You are funny, Ivor.
