By Dave Buchanan
A colourful new pantomime set in Mexico in 1910.
PLOT SUMMARY
Young American Maria Alvarez inherits a billion dollars and is immediately targetted by her rascally uncle Don Alvarez. He hires a motley crew of villains to finish her off, and in a kind of “Perils of Pauline” scenario, she has to survive six assassination attempts.
But fear not! help is at hand in the shape of Zorro & co, including a very funny expat dame called Dolly.
The action is fast, furious and fun-packed, and a real challenge for the FX team.
"Innovative and uniquely refreshing ... I couldn't put the the script down - it is hilarious panto fare sitting well in a nail-biting exciting adventure story." - Amateur Stage, July 2005

Script Sample - Enter Zorro
The police chief, Gomez, and two policemen, Jose and Jaime, are onstage.
Gomez goes DL and posts the notice up. As he does so, the Villagers gather from R and L, including Margarita
Margarita Hey Gomez, what’s on the notice?
Gomez What’s the matter, muchacha, can’t you read?
Margarita I can read but you’re standing beside it.
The Villagers agree and call out to Gomez to read the notice
Gomez Okay okay, I read it. (Reads) “To whom it may concern -”
Margarita Hey why don’t you cut the cackle and get to the gist?
Cries of agreement
Gomez Okay okay. There’s good news and bad news. From now
on, you pay the same taxes as before.
Margarita What’s the bad news?
Gomez You pay the same as before - plus twenty five percent!
He laughs, and prompts the other two policemen to laugh
Meanwhile there is uproar
Various You can’t do that! How much? Etc.
Margarita You pig, Gomez!
Gomez You watch your tongue, or I lock you up.
Margarita Cochino!
Gomez (to Jose and Jaime) Arrest her!
Jose What now, Chief?
Gomez Of course.
Jose But we’re outnumbered.
Jaime And there are more of them than us!
Gomez You’ve got guns and swords. Arrest her!
They grab Margarita amid cries of protest and boos
Jaime They’re booing us, Chief.
Gomez Let’s get out of here quick.
They are moving towards the exit R when they are confronted by - Zorro! - an apparition all in black, with cloak, mask and hat
There is a loud whisper from the Villagers
Villagers Zorro!
There is a noticeable cringe from the policemen, especially Jose and Jaime
Zorro So, Gomez, amigo, we meet again. Up to no good, eh? Rubbing the villagers’ noses in the dirt? Is that right, amigos?
Villagers Si!
Policemen No!
There is a sound effect of castanets as the two policemen’s knees visibly knock
Margarita Zorro, these cochinos have raised our taxes by twenty five percent! Look over there (she points to the notice board).
Zorro goes over to the notice board
Zorro So! (To the policemen) Is this true, hombres?
Villagers Si!
Policemen No!
Gomez (to Jose & Jaime) Arrest him!
Jose But Chief -
Gomez What are you waiting for?
Jaime He’s Zorro.
Jaime He has a big sword!
Gomez You have rifles.
They both nod and take out their rifles. Then a look of horror appears on Jaime’s face. He whispers nervously to Jose, who looks at his rifle
What is the matter?
Jose whispers in Gomez’s ear
What? Say that again!
Jose (pointing to Jaime) He forgot to put the bullets in this morning.
Laughs from the crowd
Jaime I’m so sorry, Chief. Will you forgive me?
He begins to squeal in the manner of Stan Laurel
Gomez Use your swords then.
Jose We forgot to bring them, Chief.
Gomez Idiots! Cretins!
He belabours them with his hands
Zorro Hey Gomez, you have a sword.
Everybody stares at Gomez
You can fight me. What do you say, amigo?
Gomez realises he has no way out
Gomez So be it.
Zorro Let’s make it a fair contest. Three against one. Give them swords.
The Villagers hand swords to Jose and Jaime, to their great discomfiture
(Circling round with sword pointed) En garde!
Gomez (to Jose and Jaime) Get him!
Zorro quickly deals with the two policemen after one or two passes, flicking their swords to the ground
The crowd shouts,”Ole!”
Zorro flicks his sword at Jose, and a large letter Z appears on his costume
Then he flicks his sword at Jaime and his trousers fall down
Everyone laughs as the wretched pair dash off R
Zorro then turns towards Gomez
Zorro En garde!
They circle each other and make a number of passes, but Gomez is no match for Zorro and he is soon disarmed. He sinks slowly down on his knees
Gomez Are you going to kill me?
Zorro What do you think, amigos?
